Ellen lost her father, Gunther, before she was even born. Her father was killed during the War of Extermination, executed by Pedigran Lagrest for treason after he lead men in an attempt to rescue his father who was being held prisoner for being a mage. Gunther was a light mage, but his daughter Ellen was born lame, meaning unable to use magic. This was the first time a Nands was born lame and with Sissold being to old to have any more children that left Ellen as the sole Heir to Black Stone Tower and to the legacy of House Nands. Ellen is one of the most sought after maidens in Ruinous, being part of a powerful family and also being a woman heir to castle, making her future husband the lord of Black Stone and his name and line the one that will carry on into the future. In many ways Ellen is the end of the Nands line, as her name will not carry on to future lords of Black Stone, but also because she was born lame and could mark the end of the Nands legacy as High Light Mages. Sissold has refused many matches for Ellen, trying to find the perfect match that will bring ether a powerful legacy or a potential Light Mage as an heir.
