Crooked Puzzle Piece

I one time built a puzzle

and found the oddest part

Crooked and diagonal

and shaped just like a heart




Was scratched and burnt

and torn and worn

But it filled its spot

with no concern 




That piece had no puzzle

that I had seen before

And my puzzle had one opening

with that piece at it’s core
