The Disappearance of Lucas
After the Passing of his father Damien wished to cut short the "coming of age journeys" that his three sons embarked on and have them by his side. Pedigran and Clancy had already returned home to help their father prepare for their grandfather's funeral as well as Damien's coronation, but Lucas had already left for the Southern Continent and tracking him down would take some time. So Damien decided to proceed with his father's burial without his youngest son present but wished to hold off on his coronation. Months eventually passed and still the party sent to retrieve Lucas had still not returned. Damien began to fear the worst, that his son was potentially in some sort of danger, so he sent three of his Royal Knights to the Southern Continent, as well as his son Clancy. When Clancy and the Royal Knights returned they had recovered Ser Tish Liter, the Royal Knight who Dante assigned to watch over Lucas on his journey. Tish had told them that while in the South he lost track of Lucas, who had taken in upon himself to escape Tish's protection, and that he had been searching for him this entire time. Tish told them that it would be safe to assume that Lucas was dead but Damien did not want to believe it. He exiled Tish to the Southern Continent and stripped him of his rank. Tish was not to return without the young prince, and so Tish never returned. Though Damien never saw his son again he never admitted to believing him dead. He knew his son had longed for a life of adventure and hoped that he would one day return.
Elemental Mages and the Endaures
Through his attempts to recover his lost son Damien sent many parties to the Southern Continent, one of them being led by his own High Mage, Edric Nands. Edric, though old, was well traveled in the Southern Continent so he felt that he may have success locating the lost prince. Though he never found Lucas, what he did find was equally important to Ruinousian history. He was the first Ruinousian to venture to the Sea of Sand, a great desert that Mikken had written about and a place of great danger. There Edric discovered a slave trade but the slaves were not ordinary common folk. While there were thousands of "normal slaves" there were also slaves that could manipulate the elements, Earth, Wind, Water, and Fire. While they could not perform the same type of magic as Edric, he felt a kinship towards them and used what gold he had to purchase one. The slave was named Jinzo Edaure and he returned to Ruinous with Edric. Fascinated by Jinzo and his magic he brought him before Damien, telling him that Mages with powers similar to Jinzo's were common among the slaves in the Sea of Sand and that they would be an asset to to Ruinous. He wanted to send Jinzo back there to find people with the gift and bring them back to Black Stone Tower, where they can serve the crown. Damien had agreed to allow Jinzo to represent Ruinous in the south as long as he agreed to search for his son. Jinzo and Edric agreed to the task and returned with many mages. The life Edric was offering them was above and beyond better than any life they could hope for in the south, so it was an easy sell. The only difficult part was buying them from their master, some of whom refused to sell their prized possessions. Eventually though the mages in Black Stone had become to many to house and Edric needed a place for them to live. He went to Damien and requested that the Council offer him a grant to construct a "Magic Academy" called Issaeos. He originally wanted Isseaos to be contained within his own land, but Damien had saw this as an opportunity to construct a new castle at the north west coast near the Starelm and just over the Blood Bridge. So Damien contracted the Leones to erect Issaeos, the Magical Academy. After the completion of Issaeos Edric stepped down from his position of High Mage, letting his son Devon take his place, and became the first head master of the academy. With this new laws were put into place throughout Ruinous.
Soon after Edric Nands passed away he left the position of headmaster to Jinzo, who had successfully placed a Mage in every house, with only house Lagrest as an exception because the High Mage had filled that position. Over time the lords of Ruinous became accustomed to having Mages in their homes, finding their wealth of knowledge to be an assets. As time went on though Jinzo grew ill and passed away leaving the position of headmaster to his son Kerbo. For the work that his father had done in bringing Mages to Ruinous, and helping to educate them, Kerbo was elevated to a Lord and given Issaeos as his seat of power. In addition to that Devon Nands had given him 3000 of his own men to man the castle and provide Kerbo with an Army.
- All men or woman born possessing the gift, high born or low, were required to attend schooling at the Academy and would serve Ruinous
- All Mages would be educated on the principles of magic, war, mathematics, history, philosophy, and literature so they may best advise the lords of Ruinous
- Every house was required to have one Mage as part of their personal council, the Mage would be trained and chosen by the Academy
- The Academy was under the direct supervision of the High Mage, he would oversee all happenings and ultimately be the highest authority amongst Mages
- Any outlaw found guilty of using magic to steal, pillage, or kill would be put to death

A Peaceful Passing
Damien II's rein was short and relatively uneventful, but it would serve in shaping the future of Ruinous. It brought about the emergence of Elemental Mages, something that the neighboring Pegasus did not possess, strengthened domestic ties with the Gafertys and Spewakes through the marriages of Damien's two sons to their two daughters, and it continued an era of peace and prosperity. Ruinous flourished in the years that Damien ruled, as it did under his father. Damien had passed away at the age of 74 in his own bed, with his two sons at his side. It is said that his passing was peaceful and painless, but that even on his death bed he called out for his lost son Lucas. His final words to Pedigran and Clancy were "When Lucas returns tell him that I missed him dearly and that I am proud of him".
