A Quiet Day in the Woods
I went to visit his grave
or what could pass for a grave anyway
His picture bolted a tree
on that hill he took us all to
His sanctuary he called it
His church
The place we all became men
or at least took a step
It was quit
Just the birds and frogs singing their lovely songs
He loved those song
that and the chanting of men
Alpha! Beta! Gamma! Delta!
We believe the essential
Never give up, he said
You can do anything, he said
He fought for glory
He lived for honor
But he died
He died for love
Love of his life
And the way it should be spent
Love of his family
And the way things should have been
Love of this world
That he may never know again
or what could pass for a grave anyway
His picture bolted a tree
on that hill he took us all to
His sanctuary he called it
His church
The place we all became men
or at least took a step
It was quit
Just the birds and frogs singing their lovely songs
He loved those song
that and the chanting of men
Alpha! Beta! Gamma! Delta!
We believe the essential
Never give up, he said
You can do anything, he said
He fought for glory
He lived for honor
But he died
He died for love
Love of his life
And the way it should be spent
Love of his family
And the way things should have been
Love of this world
That he may never know again
